The current organization of the ANSF (Afghan National Security Forces) has
been developed by the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan (NTM-A). The Afghan
National Defense University (ANDU) is the cornerstone of this, and it is based
in Kabul. It has now been officially named MFNDU (Marshal Fahim National Defense
University), in honor of Mohammad Qasim Fahim (an Afghan military commander,
politician and the First Vice President of Afghanistan from November 2009 until
his death in March 2014. Fahim became an honorary "Marshall" in 2004).
