About the district

The Partido de Alberti is located at the center-west part of the Province of Buenos Aires. It is 1,125 Km² and it had a total population of 10,373 inhabitants in the last census (2001). Its main economical activities are agriculture and stockbreeding.

The colonization of the area started in the XIX Century. In 1877 a train station was built, and was named Alberti to honor Manuel Alberti who was a member of the first Argentine self government on May 25, 1810.

The Partido de Alberti was officially founded by law in 1910 The lands of the district were taken from the neighboring districts of Chivilcoy, 25 de Mayo, Bragado and Chacabuco.

Description of the flag

The flag of Alberti was officially inaugurated on 10 June 2010, during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the town.

The flag has a blue and green background, representing the sky and the fields, respectively.

The central disk represents the economy (agriculture, cattle-breeding and industry) of the town.

The upper, yellow semicircle represents the sun rising on the horizon, as well as the sails of the mills scattered over the fields and the today's flour mills, as emblematic of the village in 1877.

In the lower semicircle, blue represents river Salado watering the municipality, while the railways represent our means of communication.

In the center of the disk, the ear represents the product of years of farming.

Flag contest proposals

The flag was selected in a public contest organized by the "Asociación Amigos de los Espacios Culturales" and the review "Tercer Arco". Out of the 85 received proposals, the jury made a first selection of 17, subsequently short-listed to four proposals submitted to public vote on 29 November 2009. As announced on 27 January 2010, proposal #2, presented by Matías Alonge, was elected with nearly 50% of the votes.

Proposal #1.
The design is mainly based on grass green colour, standing for the area of agriculture and cattle-breeding represented above all else by Alberti.

In the middle, the sun transforms its rays into grains, breathing life to the area. The seven ears represent the seven localities forming the municipality of Alberti: Alberti proper, Coronel Mom, Coronel Seguí, Plá, Achupallas, Villa María and Mechita. The lower-rank entities were not represented to avoid overcrowding of the design. The white dove's wings highlight the aspiration of the inhabitants of Alberti to live in peace and freedom.

The sky blue stripe represents river Salado that waters the aforementioned area of agriculture and cattle-breeding. The river was represented by a straight stripe, since a wavy stripe would have complicated the reproduction of the design; moreover, the stripe will look wavy on the fluttering flag.

Proposal #3.
The lower left, blue part symbolizes the rivers, lagunas and underground waters that shape our landscape and breathe life into our land.

The lower right, green part, represents the fertile soil that sustains the economy of our town and permitted the settlement by the first colonizers, the subsequent development of a successful village and the existence of all the elements (settlements, plantations, grains, cattle-breeding etc...) part of this heaven on earth.

The upper, celeste blue part represents our immaculate and diaphanous sky that transmits serenity to the place. The sky can be seen equally from all parts of the municipality, which is not the case in big towns. The set up of the three aforementioned parts forms a dove symbolizing peace and tranquillity that reign in Alberti and are maintained day after day by all the inhabitants. The design of the dove forms:

- a star (the dove's tail) placed in heavens by God to enlighten and guide the march of our village;

- wings, whose waves represent the settlements forming our municipality: Mechita, Pla, Achupallas (left), Coronel Seguí, Coronel Mom and Alberti (right);

- the valley of Salado (the dove's head), which highlights life generated by water and our deep feelings for the river.

Proposal #4.
The dominant colours are celeste blue for the sky and green for the fecund and productive fields.

In the lower right part is placed a sown crop watered by river Salado. The simulated gear represents industry set up on or green fields (flour mills).

In the upper left part, the sun enlightens our Alberti, the cherished village where I was borne.

Emblem in the 1950s

During General Perón’s second government (1952-1955), some elements of the Peronist emblem were adopted for the regional coat of arms of Alberti Municipality.

After Perón was deposed in 1955, all these emblems were forbidden by the Military Government.
