The symbolism of the logo can be found on https://www.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au/StGeorge/media/Documents/Council/The-Meaning-Behind-Georges-River-Council-Logo_1.pdf

The blue represents the Georges River. Water is symbolic of life. The Georges River has always played an integral part to life in the region. Indigenous communities used the river as an important source of food and a place for trade. Early industries utilised the river for oyster farming. The river was a means of transportation, connecting Sydney to the South, but also a social place, used for leisure activities. The river also symbolises fluidity, acknowledging Council’s understanding of the growing and changing needs of the local community.

The lower part represents the Port Jackson fig. It represents our Indigenous peoples and their connection to land. The forward facing Dragon rising up from the fig leaf acknowledges the Aboriginal people as the first peoples of Australia and recognises that our future is always informed by our past. The Port Jackson Fig is a species of flowering plant native to eastern Australia and is found in abundance in the Georges River LGA. Indigenous peoples found fig trees extremely useful as a place for shelter and a source for food

The red dragon represents our future and acknowledges our past. The dragon faces forward, always looking ahead. The Dragon references the legend of Saint George, representing both our connection with the wider St George area and Council’s aim to be a positive leader for change. In Chinese mythology and folklore, dragons traditionally symbolise power and strength, it is held in high esteem for its dignity and power for good. The dragon is a cultural symbol that represents prosperity and good luck, as well as a rain deity that fosters harmony.
