National Servicemen's Association of Australia flags

This body serves the interests of those Australians who were conscripted into military service (including naval and air service) during the period 1951-1972.

The Home page displays what appear to be two unit standards - square flags with the emblem of the Australian Defence Forces superimposed over a map of Australia. To the right of the Home Page is a square flag in Air Force blue, with an outer rectangle in a darker blue and with a navy blue edging and fimbriation. The background color of the central image is slate blue, and within it is a trace map of Australia in turquoise with the insignia of the Australian Defence Forces superimposed over the map. In this standard the emblem is not terribly clearly defined; the crossed swords appear to have golden blades and brown hilts, there is a red and gold crown at the very top of the anchor, and the anchor itself is blue and appears to be fouled with a red rope. Blue wings project from either side of the center. Within the outer square are the words 'NATIONAL SERVICEMEN'S ASSOCIATION' in bright blue block letters, with two stylized oak leaves at the lower right and lower left respectively. The words 'ARMY NAVY AIRFORCE' are written in similar lettering within the horizontal base.

To the left of the Home Page there is a similar square standard, but this is in bright red (one might almost say an Army Red) in color. The edging is very dark navy blue and the fimbriation is white. There is no separate background color within the central image, nor is the map of Australia a separate color as well. The map is not traced but rather is outlined in dark navy blue. Also, the Australian Defence Forces emblem is much larger and appears to have been redrawn. The crossed swords are completely in gold, there is a golden crown at the head of the anchor, which is a bright blue in color, and there does not appear to be a fouled rope, while the air force wings are in Air Force blue with navy blue trim. The lettering at the sides and base is in navy blue block capitals.

Pointing your mouse on the images reveals that the blue one represents New South Wales and the maroon one represents Queensland. These are incidentally the colours used by the 2 states in many sports, such as the rugby league "state of origin" matches.

Pale blue shades in different places in the design appears to be used for western-australian sub-branches:

Victorian sub branches use a few different ones: Tasmanian and South Australian branches seem to use the same dark blue one: Marc Pasquin, 9 August 2004

I think I've figured out that the dark blue version used by branches in different states is the national one.

There are a few pictures showing these as flags, not just logos. You can see one of the Queensland version being flown here (fourth image from top in left column): http://www.nashos.org.au/50year.htm.
A branch in Victoria offer a small version of their flag for sale, though in that particular case, it looks to be a Logo On a Bedsheet maybe due to a small square looking out of place: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~balnasho/merchandise.htm.
Another Logo On a Bedsheet from South Australia (near the bottom of the page, marching group): http://home.austarnet.com.au/jwpetter/events.htm,
probably the same as here (behind the people): http://www.nashossa.bold.net.au/page17.html.
