Doboj Istok (East Doboj) was formed in 1998 from parts of the previous Municipality of Doboj that remained in the Federation according to the demarcation line set up by the Dayton Peace Accords. It is not contiguous with the main part of the former municipality.

The flag of Doboj Istok (photo) is horizontally divided white-green-blue (2:1:1), with the coat of arms offset to the hoist in the white stripe.
The document Komunikacijska strategija Općine Doboj Istok 2006.-2009., released in September 2006, mentions in Chapter 2.2.8 that the muncipality produces small table flags for promotional purposes.

The aforementioned document mentions that the municipality adopted a coat of arms (in 1999 according to the Populari database), "but without precise dimensions, which should be prescribed with a separate Decision of the Municipal Assembly. The total design of the coat of arms, letterheads etc. is still missing".
Chapter 8 of the document includes the detailed description of the coat of arms, which is a shield horizontally divided into green and blue, with a rising sun in the first, overall crossed roads, symbolizing the important road crossing in the muncipality, but also connection to te both East and West. The open book above the roads stands for education and knowlegde required for prosperity. The five yellow five-pointed stars in an inverted arch in the base stand for the five local communities forming the municipality and the crescent shape they form represent the major religion the inhabitants confess.
