Kreševo was in the medieval period an important metallurgic town with good connections with the Republic of Ragusa. It is also the site of an important Franciscan monastery.
The traditional metallurgy is today preserved through the curious custom (or art) of putting horseshoes onto the eggs. The traditional houses of the region are also well preserved in Kreševo.

Kreševo recently adopted a flag and a coat of arms (images).
In 2010, the Municipality launched a contest for its symbols, resulting in several proposals designed by students from the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Arts, which were displayed on 16 April 2010 on the municipal website for public debate.
Following the debate two more designs (1, 2) were offered and published on 6 May 2010 on the municipal website.
Finally, on an unspecified date "immediately prior to" 5 May 2010, the
municipality adopted one of the proposed designs, made by Ena Čabrić.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms in the middle. The coat of arms is 1/2 of the flag's width in height.
