The Belgian New Beat was an underground danceable music style, well known at clubs and discos in Europe in 1989/90. Confetti's (presentation) was one of the most famous Belgian New Beat band; the producers were Serge Ramaekers and Dominique Sas. On stage Confetti's was fronted by singer Peter Renkens and female dancers Marleen, Tania, Hilde and Daniëlla. The band became one of the first New Beat projects to break through into mainstream music. Their most successful period was 1988Ð1989 with international hits: "The Sound Of C", "C In China", "C-Day".

The "C" in their first release "The Sound Of C" stands for the Belgian club Confetti's in Brasschaat, near Antwerp. Serge Ramaekers and Dominique Sas were working on a marketing campaign to gain more publicity for the club. One of the barmen at Confetti's (Peter Renkens) became the face of the marketing campaign, which included the single "The Sound Of C". To shoot a music video the band was dropped at the main shopping street in Antwerp De Meir and performed "The Sound Of C" in front of hundred citizens passing by.

On stage singer Peter was always wearing a captain uniform and was often seen with variants of the flag of the European Union with a big "C" in the middle (video, "The Sound of C"; video, "C Day"). The same flag appears on the cover of the 7-inch vinyl of "C Day".
The words of the song "Circling Stars", a mainstream-New Beat remix of "Jingle Bells" released in december 1989, honors the European flag :
