The municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque (6,387 inhabitants in 2019;
62,219 ha) is located 250 km west of Curitiba.
The flag and arms of Boa
Ventura de São Roque are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 21 promulgated on 3
April 1997.
Article 6.
The flag of the municipality of Boa Ventura de
São Roque was designed by students Adriano Morski and Edinho Cirineu da Silva
(8th Series B), and also by student Rudi José and teacher Maria Helena Ferreira
(6th Series) from State College Adonis Morski, in a public contest organized by
the municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque. The final design was adapted to
Brazilian municipal heraldry by heraldist and vexillologist Reynaldo Valascki,
in compliance with the norms prescribed by Federal Law No. 5,700 promulgated on
1 June 1942.
§1. The flag of the municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque is
a rectangle divided into four parts, two green (vert) ones and another two azure
(blue), charged in the center with a white (argent) polygon inscribing the
municipal coat of arms of Boa Ventura de São Roque.
§2. The two parts azure
(blue) symbolize the firmament and the sky covering the municipality of Boa
Ventura de São Roque, as well as the vast rural areas existing in the
municipality.
§3. The two green (vert) parts symbolize vivid aspiration of
Boa Ventura de São Roque's people to the municipality's success and progress.
§4. The yellow (or) stripes dividing the rectangle symbolize the natural
resources of the municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque.
§5. The white
(argent) polygon symbolizes faith, peace, religious spirit, and progress of the
laborious people of Boa Ventura de São Roque.
§6. The coat of arms applied in
the center of the rectangle represents the municipal government and its
irradiation spreading to all parts of the municipal territory.
Article 7.
In compliance with heraldic rules, the municipal flag of Boa Ventura de São
Roque shall have the official dimensions prescribed for the national flag, that
is 14 units in width on 20 units in length.
Article 19.
The coat of
arms of the municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque, designed by heraldist and
vexillologist Reynaldo Valascki, is described as follows in heraldic language:
Designed in Portuguese-Samnite style, the first style of shield adopted in
Portugal used as a reference to to the colonizing race and main builder of the
Brazilian nation.
a) The mural crown surmounting the shield, yellow with
eight towers, only five of them visible in perspective view, identifies a 3rd
rank town, that is, the seat of a municipality.
b) Red (gules), used in the
tower's windows and in the scroll, is a symbol of audacity, intrepidity, valor,
gallantry and nobleness, which were the attributes of the immigrants and first
colonists and inhabitants, who, with courage and audacity that actually
characterize them, left their motherland to settle in harsh climatic conditions
and lay the foundations of the town of Boa Ventura de São Roque.
c) The
shield is divided into seven parts: four quarters, two irregular triangles, and
one escutcheon.
d) The escutcheon on top of the shield portrays St. Rocco,
the patron saint of the municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque, celebrated
every day on 16 August.
e) The first quarter on the left features in the
background pinewoods and forests, which cover more than 40% of the municipal
territory, and, in the foreground, yerba mate plants, one of the plants that
contribute to the municipality's income by mate extraction.
f) In the center
of the irregular triangle surmounted by a sinuous blue line are represented a
mate calabash gourd and metal straw surrounded by fresh yerba mate plants,
representing mate, the region's traditional beverage.
g) The quarter on the
right features a map, a terrestrial globe, a book, an inkpot and quill,
representing education and culture in the municipality of Boa Ventura de São
Roque.
h) The sinuous blue line symbolizes rivers Ivaí, Pedrinho, Bonito, do
Corvo, and Marrequinha, as well as the other brooks irrigating the rich soil of
the municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque.
i) Beneath the sinuous line the
right quarter features a tractor driven by a farmer preparing the soil to sow
grains.
j) The ox, sheep and pig's heads represent cattle-breeding in the
municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque.
k) The lower irregular triangle
features a winged helmet symbolizing commerce on the whole municipal territory.
l) Beneath the shield a handshake placed longitudinally symbolizes union and
force of Boa Ventura de São Roque's people.
m) Above the scroll cogwheels
represents the municipality's industrial power.
n) The shield is supported
right by maize and bean plants fructed, and left by soybean and wheat plants
that represent the main sources of income for the municipality of Boa Ventura de
São Roque.
o) On the scroll the toponym "Boa Ventura de São Roque."

Left on the scroll's point "18-09-1995", day, month and year of creation of the
municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque.
q) Right on the scroll's point
"01_01_1997", day, month and year of inauguration of the first Mayor of the
municipality of Boa Ventura de São Roque.
