The municipality of Capanema (19,099 inhabitants in 2018; 41,871 ha) is
located on the border with Argentina, 600 km west of Curitiba.
The flag
and arms of Capanema are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 59 promulgated in 1973.
The symbols were designed by Arcinoe Antônio Peixoto Faria.
On the flag,
the coat of arms represents the municipal government, while the rectangle that
inscribes it represents the town proper, as the seat of the municipality. White
is a symbol of peace, friendship, work, purity, religious spirit and prosperity.
The white stripes represent the spread of the municipal power over all the parts
of the territory. Red is a symbol of dedication, courage, patriotic love and
valiance.
The green quarters represent the rural estates existing on the
municipal territory. Green is a symbol of honor, abundance and hope.
The
coat of arms of Capanema is composed of a shield in Portuguese style surmounted
by a eight towers, only five of them visible, representing a town. Green is a
symbol of honor and hope, greening fields promising profuse harvests. Argent is
a symbol of peace, work, friendship. Black is a symbol of austerity, prudence
and moderation.
The plow and the pig's heads recall the municipality's
sources of income, agriculture and pig breeding. The bean and soybean plants
represent the main crops. Red is a symbol of the dedication and courage of
Capanema's people.
