The municipality of Jataizinho (12,615 inhabitants in 2017; 15,918 ha) is
located 400 km north-west of Curitiba.
The flag of Jataizinho was
designed by heraldist Arcinoé Peixoto de Farias.
The coat of arms placed
in the center of the flag represents the municipal government, while the big
lozenge inscribing it represents the town proper, as the seat of the
municipality.
White is the symbol of peace, friendship, work, prosperity,
purity, and religious spirit.
The stripes that start from the points of the
central lozenge and are superimposed with black stripes represent the spread of
municipal power to all parts of the territory.
Black is a symbol of
austerity, prudence, wisdom, moderation, and firmness.
The blue and red
quarters represent the rural properties existing in the municipal territory.
Blue is a symbol of justice, nobility, perseverance, zeal, and loyalty.
Red
is a symbol of patriotic love, dedication, audacity, intrepidity, courage, and
bravery.
The coat of arms of Jataizinho was designed by heraldist Arcinoé
Peixoto de Farias and Adauto José Gonçalves de Oliveira.
The shield used
to represent the arms of Jataizinho was the first style of shield introduced in
Portugal by French influence, inherited by Brazilian heraldry as an evocative of
the colonizing race and the main builder of the nation.
The mural crown that
surmounts it is the universal symbol of domains' coats of arms; argent with six
towers, of which only four are visible in perspective view, it classifies a 3rd
rank town, that is, the seat of a municipality.
Or is a symbol of glory,
splendor, wealth, greatness, and sovereignty.
The escutcheon placed in the
center of the shield features the arms of the Lopes family, as a tribute to
pioneer Joaquim Francisco Lopes who, along with Friar Timóteo, is considered the
founder of Jataizinho.
Blue is a symbol of justice, nobility, perseverance,
zeal, and loyalty.
The anchors recall the first name of the place, Porto
Jatai, as the starting point of navigation on river Tibagi heading Mato Grosso.
Black is a symbol of austerity, prudence, wisdom, moderation, and firmness.
The base argent wavy azure represents river Tibagi. The black wall section
represents the fortifications of the Military Colony of Jatahy, which in the
early days of colonization was an outpost in the defense of lands conquered by
pioneers' expeditions against the influence of the Spanish Jesuit reductions.
Argent is the symbol of peace, friendship, work, prosperity, purity, and
religious spirit.
The shield is supported by flowered cotton branches, which
represent the main product from the generous and fertile land, and the
municipality's main source of income at the time.
Red is a symbol of
patriotic love, dedication, audacity, intrepidity, courage, and bravery.
Year
"1854" recalls the inauguration of the Military Colony of Jatahy, that is, the
foundation of the settlement, as well as the arrival of missionary Friar Timóteo
de Castelnuovo. Year "1872" recalls the elevation of the settlement to the
category of parish.
