The municipality of Novo Bassano (9,540 inhabitants; 21,161 ha) is located
200 km north of Porto Alegre.
Novo Bassano was established in 1891 as
Bassano del Grappa, a name given by immigrants coming from the town of the same
name, located in the province of Vicenza, North Italy.
The municipality of
Nova Bassano was established by State Law No. 4,730 promulgated on 23 May 1964,
separating from Nova Prata, and inaugurated on 10 January 1965.

The flag of Nova Bassano is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 192 promulgated on
[illegible] 1975.
Article 1.
The flag of the municipality of Nova
Bassano shall have for official colors green, yellow and blue, arranged in three
vertical stripes of equal dimension, representing:
a) Green: People's
aspiration to progress;
b) Blue: Brazil's serene sky that shelters us, as a
small particle of the national's territory;
c) Yellow: Soil's resources and
people's work.
§1. The colors shall be arranged as follows:
a) Green,
at inner end;
b) Yellow, in central part;
c) Blue, at extreme end.
§2. The center of the yellow stripe shall be charged with the coat of arms of
the municipality.
Article 2.
The design of the flag shall obey the
following rules:
a) The flag's width shall be 12 units.
b) The flag's
length shall be 18 units.
c) The length of each vertical stripes shall be 6
units.
d) The coat of arms shall be of 6 units in width, leaving 3 units
above and beneath it.

The coat of arms of Nova Bassano is
prescribed by Municipal Law No. 70 promulgated on 11 March 1968.
Article
1.
A classic Portuguese shield, mantled, azure (blue), or, argent and vert
(green), charged in chief with a cross or filled gules (red), as a symbol of the
Christian origin and feelings of the inhabitants of Novo Bassano; representing
one of the big resources of the municipality, three bunches of grapes proper,
placed 2 and 1, with leaves; a Brazilian pine proper on a field argent on the
mantel's triangle; in base, on a field vert (green), the river crossing the town
- River Atanásio - argent wavy black.
The colors represent the national
colors and the colors of Rio Grande do Sul, also symbolizing the specific
resources of the soil, grapes, maize, wheat, and, originally, Brazilian pine,
the qualities of people, and Rio Grande do Sul's most beautiful sky.
As
supporters, dexter a maize plant fructed proper, sinister a branch of tomato
proper [hand-written correction of the original, typed text: a wheat plant
proper fructed or].
A scroll azure (blue) charged "1892 - Novo Bassano -
1964" or with the dates of settlement's initiation and emancipation.
The
shield surmounted by a four-towered mural crown.
