Municipality

The municipality of Passa Sete (5,523 inhabitants in 2016; 30,476 ha) is located 230 km north-west of Porto Alegre.

Passa Sete is named for the stream of the same name, which travelers had to cross seven ("sete") times.
The municipality of Passa Sete was established on 28 December 1995, separating from Sobradinho, and inaugurated on 1 January 1997.

Symbols

The flag and arms of Passa Sete are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 109 promulgated on 24 March 1998.

Article 6.
The municipal flag of Passa Sete, established via a contest prescribed by Municipal Law No. 31 promulgated on 18 March 1997 and designed by Leo Mainardi, is composed of three colors: blue, yellow and green placed vertically. It is divided into three parts, each of them of 7 units in length and 14 units in width. In the center of the yellow stripe is placed the coat of arms of the municipality in full colors, covering one third of the width of 14 units.

§3. The symbolism of the colors of the flag is the same as for the coat of arms, as described in Article 20 of this Law.

Article 19.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Passa Sete, established via a contest prescribed by Municipal Law No. 31 promulgated on 18 March 1997 and designed by Leo Mainardi, is desribed as follows. Dexter a field azure charged with mountains vert and argent. Sinister, fields vert charged with two araucarias and smaller pines vert and ochre and a river azure representing river Passa Sete surmounted by a street ochre. Sinister, too, bovines argent and sable. The shield supported sinister by a tobacco plant vert outlined sable and sinister by a maize plant and a bean plant vert outlined sable tied by a scroll argent charged with the toponym "28 - 12 Passa Sete 1995". The shield surmounted by a four-towered mural crown argent outlined sable.

Article 20.
The coat of arms described in the previous Article shall have the following interpretation.
I. Passa Sete is characterized by an exuberant vegetation that covers green valleys and mountains, featured in the inner part of the coat of arms of the municipality; the blue sky, the araucarias, which are abundant, native trees, also represent the municipality's green valleys and mountains.
II. Green represents the fields, the forests and the plantations grown by the strong arms of the farmers, who are, mostly, descendants of German, Italian and Portuguese immigrants.
III. River Passa Sete, the municipality's namesake, is represented with the seven passages under the road that crosses the municipality north-south.
IV. The bovines represent cattle-breeding and milk production, which are among the municipality's sources of income.
V. The supporters, a tobacco plant representing the main product of local agriculture, and maize and bean plants, whose cultivation also generates income for the municipality.
VI. The mural crown represents protection, guard and powers existing at the service of the community: Executive, Legislative, Judiciary, and social organizations.
VII. The colors of the coat of arms of the municipality of Passa Sete have the following heraldic description.
a) Or (yellow) represents resources, prosperity and abundance.
b) Azure (blue) represents protection, energy and life.
c) Sable (black) represents justice and protection.
d) Vert (green) represents the natural environment.
e) Argent (silver) represents mystery and faith.
f) Gules (red) represents justice, power and force.
