Municipality

The municipality of Arabutã (4,267 inhabitants in 2019; 13,223 ha) is located 500 km west of Florianópolis.

Arabutã was elevated to a district of Concórdia in 1938. The municipality of Arabutã was established by State Law No. 8,474 promulgated on 12 December 1991.
The municipality is named for a Tupi-Guarani word meaning "brazilwood", a tree commonly found on the banks of river Jacutinga.

Description of the Flag

The flag and arms of Arabutã are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 20 promulgated on 16 June 1993.

Article 2.
The coat of arms of the municipality of Arabutã shall be described in proper heraldic language as follows: A Samnit shield, surmounted by a four-towered mural crown. On a field or, sun, mountains, trees, river, cogwheel, dove, maize and wheat, pig and hen. Colors: red.

The coat of arms described in proper heraldic language shall have the following interpretation.
I - The Samnit shield, used to represent the coat of arms of the municipality of Arabutã, was the first style of shield introduced to Portugal by French influence and inherited by Brazilian heraldry to evoke the colonizing race and main builder of the nation.
II - The mural crown surmounting the shield is the universal symbol of domain's coat of arms, classifying the town as of 3rd rank or seat of a municipality.
III - Or (gold) is a symbol of glory, splendor, greatness, wealth and knowledge.
IV - The sun, a star of 5th rank, light yellow (on a blue background representing the sky) is the light that enlightens all the municipality's components, symbolizing progress and prosperity.
V - The mountains, green, symbolize the ruggy geography of the municipal territory.
VI - The trees, symbolizing flora, are Arabutã's namesake.
VII - The river, light blue, symbolizes the municipality's water resources.
VIII - The cogwheel symbolizes social and economic integration for the municipality's development.
IX - The dove is a symbol of peace, friendship, work, prosperity, purity and religious feeling.
X - Maize and wheat symbolize the agricultural resources and the fertility of the municipality's soil.
XI - The pig and the hen symbolizes the municipality's main source of income, which is animal breeding.
XII - The red scroll inscribed "Arabutã" identifies the municipal symbol.
XIII - The blue color in the shield's upper part symbolizes the sky.

Article 6.
The municipal flag of Arabutã shall be divided into five parts with a central circle, as follows.
I - Upper stripe, yellow, of 2 horizontal units, symbolizing wealth, glory, splendor and sovereignty.
II - Central stripe, black, of 2 horizontal and 2 vertical units, symbolizing honor, respect and religious spirit, wisdom, moderation, firmness, surrounded by 4 horizontal and 4 vertical white units, symbolizing peace, union and glee.
III - Lower stripe, red, of 2 horizontal units, symbolizing respect, security, alert, dedication, fertility and patriotic love.
IV - Central circle, charged with the coat of arms of the municipality, symbolizing the irradiation of municipal power from the seat to the inner parts.
The colors together symbolize the original force of the German people who predominate in Arabutã's population.

Article 6.
The municipal flag shall have the official dimensions adopted for the national flag.
