The municipality of Bocaino do Sul (3,474 inhabitants in 2019; 51,110 ha) is located 200 km west of Florianópolis.

The flag and arms of Bocaina do Sul are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 20
promulgated on 30 April 1997.
Article 2.
The symbols used on the coat
of arms have the following meaning.
I - "16 de julho 1994" [16 July 1994]
represents the date of emancipation.
II - The pine symbolizes reforestation
of the whole municipality.
III - Yerba mate and honey represent natural
sources of income.
IV - Wicker symbolizes primary stuff abundant in the
region.
V - The yellow scroll represents underground resources, supporting
the coat of arms of the municipality.
VI - The araucaria symbolizes the
historic landscape of Planalto Serrano.
VII - The bovine, pig, horse and
fields represents animal breeding in the municipalmity and the Gaúcha tradition.
VIII - The relief symbolizes Bocaino do Sul's potential for tourism.
IX - The
river represents the municipality's first name, Rio Bonito.
X - The sun
symbolizes Bocaino do Sul's rebirth and development.
Article 3.
The
red, white and green colors of the flag represent:
Green - the preservation
of natural environment and the municipality's main factor of development,
timber.
White - harmony and peace between all living organisms.
Red -
Courage and decision of Bocaino do Sul's people.
