About the Flag of Araraquara

Source: http://www.camara-arq.sp.gov.br/Cidade/Simbolos.htm, the official city website.
Dov Gutterman, 3 July 3001

The flag is 14 x 20 units, blue with a white triangle based on the hoist, its apex 9 units from the hoist. On the triangle is the municipal coat of arms, 5 units high, and on the fly a golden sun 8 units in diameter. As indicated in the explanation of the arms, the sun is a pun on the indigenous Indians's name for the locale, which translated as "dwelling of the sun."
Joseph McMillan, 13 March 2002

About the Coat of Arms

The coat of arms was designed by Dr. José Romeu Ferraz with the collaboration of Dr. Guilherme de Almeida and alterations made by Dr. Lauro Ribeiro Escobar. It was approved by Law No. 2058 of 30 May 1974. The shield is blue with a yellow mantel in base (I don't know how to translate this term; it is like a pile inverted with the sides enarched, or something like that). In chief is a golden sun. The mantel symbolizes a mountain of gold, which is what attracted the first settlers. A red cogwheel in base symbolizes industry. The supporters are branches of coffee and sugar cane; the motto on the scroll is Altior altissimo semper, which translates as "Ever higher and higher." In addition, the usual high-flown pseudo-heraldic explanations of the colors are also included in the law.
