Conchas is named for the shells ("conchas") common in the river that
flows near the today's town. The site was a convenient place of rest
for travelers and muleteers. André Ferreira and the German Waiss
established there ranches, near which a town developed. The growth of
the town was favoured by the inauguration in 1888 of the railway
station of Pereiras, located 6 km of Conchas. The district of Conchas
was established by State Law No. 466 of 5 December 1896, as part of
the municipality of Tietê, transferred to the municipality of Pereiras
by State Law No. 681 of 14 September 1899, and eventually re-
incorporated to Tietê by State Law No. 819 of 19 April 1902.
The municipality of Conchas was established by State Law No. 1,513 of
4 December 1916 and inaugurated on 25 January 1917. The district of
Juquiratiba was established by Decree-Law No. 14,334 of 30 November
1944.

The coat of arms of Conchas is quartered by a thin white cross fimbriated in blue, with quarters represented in gray tints. The first quarter represents a muleteer, as a tribute to the first colonizers of the region. The second quarter represents the river surrounded by two shells ("conchinas"), the town's namesakes. The third quarter represents a shake-hand, as a symbol of friendship, order and hospitality. The fourth quarter represents a bovine and a locomotive, symbolizing cattle breeding and transportation, respectively. The shield is surmounted by a mural crown symbolizing municipal emancipation. The shield is supported by two branches of cotton, the main crop in the municipality.
