Monte Aprazível was founded in 1900 by Areias-borne Captain Porfírio de Alcântara Pimentel (1843-1919), on a piece of land offered by João Busto Moreno. Located close to river São José dos Dourados, the settlement was originally named Água Limpa (Clearwater); when made a district on 18 December 1914 by State Law no. 1,438, the place was renamed Monte Aprazível (Mount Pleasant). The founder coined the new name to highlight the location of the settlement on a small height. The municipality of Monte Aprazível, seceding from Rio Preto, was established on 23 December 1924 by State Law No. 2,008 and inaugurated on 10 March 1925.
Article 3 of the Municipal Constitution, adopted on 28 March 1990, states
that the municipal symbols are the coat of arms, the flag and other symbols
prescribed by a Municipal Law.

The flag is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 1,269 of 7 May 1975. The flag is horizontally divided blue-white-red with the municipal coat of arms in the middle, slightly overlapping the blue and red stripes.
Photos of the flag - the shade of blue appears to vary among the different copies of the flag: http://www.sitedemonte.com.br/noticias/default.asp?page=1&nid=3695 http://monteaprazivelnoticias.blogspot.fr/2012/07/simplicidade-e-humildade-do-governador.html http://www.citybrazil.com.br/arquivos/imagens/galfotos/gfu_800_00020210.jpg http://www.monteaprazivel.com/cidadefm/print_new.asp?news_id=0100003444 http://www.monteaprazivel.com/cidadefm/print_new.asp?news_id=0000003755
The coat of arms is "Quarterly, 1. and 4. Gules a castle or, 2. and 3. Vert a lion rampant or, all over an escutcheon azure a mount argent ensigned with a Latin cross or. The shield surmounted by a four- towered castle argent. The shield surrounded dexter by a branch of coffee and sinister by a branch of cotton, the two fructed proper. Below the shield a scroll argent inscribed with the name of the municipality in letters azure sable on the image."
Gules is a symbol of the struggle of the first builders, who settled
in 1900 in Água Limpa and established there, thanks to constant work,
audacity and valiance, a focus of faith and civilization within a
hostile environment.
The castle comes from the coat of arms of the Pimentel family,
recalling the town's founder, Porfírio de Alcântara Pimentel. The
castle is also a symbol of strength, sovereignty and force of the
local commerce and cultures.
Vert is a tribute to those who built in the beginning of the 20th
century the first ranches, from which emerged Monte Aprazivel, a
progressivist town with patriotic feelings for the Brazilian land.
The lion rampant appears on the arms of the Pimentel family and is the
main charge of the arms of the Alcântara family. The lion is also a
symbol of justice, clemency and benignity, being the noblest of the
animals.
The escutcheon recalls the name of the municipality; the historical
establishment of the settlement, and the Christian faith.
The supporters are the main crops in the municipality.
