The Town of Comox, British Columbia is in the Comox Regional District, on Vancouver Island, about 100 km north of Nanaimo.
According to comox.ca the name comes from a native word "Koumuckthay" meaning "land of plenty". The Town uses the slogan "the village by the sea".
Population: 12000 area: 1500 ha.
Comox is not just known for being the childhood home of Pamela Anderson, but also for the air force base CFB Comox, which is the home base of 442 Search and Rescue, and 407 Maritime Patrol Squadrons. The CF-18 Hornet fighters are no longer permanently based at Comox. [airfore.forces.ca]. The Canadian Forces air demonstration team, the Snowbirds, do their "spring training" each April at CFB Comox.
Comox has a campus of North Island College and is the nearest town to Mount Washington and its ski area.
