Originally known as "Gibson's Landing", Gibsons is probably best known as the setting for the old CBC programme "The Beachcombers", which was syndicated around the world. Gibsons is on BC's Sunshine Coast, which is on the mainland, but is reached from the Vancouver area by ferry. In 2005, Gibsons' unchlorinated artesian well water was voted the best drinking water in North America.
The Town of Gibsons was incorporated in 1929, and is part of the Sunshine Coast Regional District, along with the District of Sechelt, and the Sechelt Indian Government District.
The area was first settled in 1886 by the Gibson family, whose original
"landing" at the site was probably more of a shipwreck.
