Farnham is a city in MRC de Brome-Missisquoi.
The town of Farnham (9,238
inhabitants in 2028; 9,204 ha) is located 30 km south-west of Granby.
The
town of Farnham was established on 8 March 2000 as the merger of the former Town
of Farnham and of the municipality of Rainville.
Farnham, named for a
village located in the English county of Surrey, was established as a canton
composed of three concessions:
- Concession A (eastern part), granted on 22
October 1798 to Samuel Gale;
- Concession B (central part), granted on 9
September 1805 to the heirs of the late Colonel Abraham Cuyler: Jane, Cathalina,
H. Baldwin and Élizabeth Cuyler);
- Concession C (western part), granted on
11 February 1809 to George Allsopp.
In 1831, the village of West-Farnham had
1,239 inhabitants. Whipple Cook, an American from Rhode Island, built in 1817 a
sawmill on the south bank of river Yamaska. The inauguration of the Champlain &
St-Lawrence Railway connecting Laprairie and Saint-Jean-Dorchester boosted the
development of West-Farnham. A stage coach service serving the village was
established the same year.
The village of West-Farnham was incorporated in
1862, to be elevated a town on 28 December 1976.

Farnham is a city in MRC de Brome-Missisquoi.
Flag is a logo on white.
Dave Fowler, 5 March 2022
The logo, designed in September 2013, represents a "F", for Farnham. It is
simple, unique, and easy to recognize. The calligraphy of ancestral type is a
tribute to the builders of the town.
The "F" is split in two parts by the
railway, represented by a vertical white line.
Letter "F" adequately
represents the town's history. Founded in 1876, Farnham is often described as a
railway town. The "F"'s right part is coal gray, which represents the train
history and the significance of industry on the territory. The "F"'s left part
id green, representing ecological vision, sustainable development, and
agricultural environment.
Farnham is located on the banks of river Yamaska.
The logo is horizontally divided like the town is divided east-west by the
river. Blue represents water, also symbolizing calm, wisdom and liberty.
The
leaf represents youth. It is important for the town that young people grow
happily, healthy and proud to be Farnhamians.

"Vert a pallet wavy argent a rose gules surrounded dexter by a wheat sheaf or
sinister by two gear wheels in pale of the same. The shield surmounted by a
seven-towered mural crown or and supported by two branches of maple vert slipped
and botonny or tied in saltire by a ribbon gules holding a scroll or inscribed
with the motto 'Bonorum Laborum Gloriosus est Fructus' in Roman letters."
The pallet wavy represents the geographic location of the town of Farnham on
the banks of river Yamaska. The rose is a tribute to George Alsopp's family.
The wheat sheaf recalls the first farmers established in Farnham area. The gear
wheels symbolize industry. Or means shine, justice, faith, force and Constance.
The mural crown is proper to towns.
