The rural municipality is located in the southeast corner of the province and has an office in the Village of Alida. The population is 416. It has land area of 733.06 km².

The flag is a banner of arms, based on the shield of the coat of arms which
is described as "Per fess barbelé Or and Sable". The Public Register
of Arms further indicates that "the arrowhead division line, used here for the first time in Canadian heraldry, refers to the idea of free trade implicit in the Municipality’s name. The colours refer to the main industries of the area: yellow for agriculture, black for oil."
