Here is the story of the town flag:
"Broadview residents can now
display their home town pride at sporting events and celebrations by waving
their new Town of Broadview flag. Broadview Mayor Sid Criddle came up with the
idea for the flag, which was designed by Broadview School teacher Debbie
Pearson. “I just thought it would be nice to have,” Criddle said. “Broadview
has never had one before.”
Criddle first came up with the idea when he and several other small-town Saskatchewan mayors were invited to take part in the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ 100th anniversary celebrations, and were asked to bring their town flag if they had one.“I thought it would be nice to have a flag of our own,” Criddle said. A recent hockey pool raised enough money to purchase three flags, which cost around $125 a piece, with the remaining funds going towards landscaping at the Broadview Community Hall. “I’ve had nothing but positive response to it,” Criddle said. “Everybody seemed to think it was a good idea, and three individuals wanted to buy a flag of their own, so I ordered three more for them too.” The flags that have been purchased so far will be displayed at the Town of Broadview office, the Broadview Community Hall and the Broadview Museum. In the future, Criddle also hopes to have one flag on display at Memory Park.
The look of the new flag is based on the
Broadview pin designed by Debbie Pearson back in 1980, as part of the town’s
homecoming celebrations. “I thought it was quite neat, because it had an
Indian chief on one side, a wheat sheath on the other side and a locomotive
across the top,” Criddle explained. That’s kind of what our heritage is all
about.”" - from:
