Overview

Piamonte was established as a segregated territory from the Santa Rosa Municipality through Ordenanza No. 24 of November 18, 1996 by the Department of Cauca and formally recognized four days later on November 22, although it has been an indigenous populated area since at least 1492. It was a "Corregimiento" (English: township corregence) of Santa Rosa until its formal establishment as a Municipality.

Flag

The flag is described as follows (original in Spanish): Composed of three stripes: green (top), blue (middle) and yellow (bottom), superimposed by a black triangle from the hoist with a white outline, the colors symbolize:

Green: In a horizontal stripe, in a proportion of 50% of the size of the flag, representing the abundance of plant resources that the Municipality has.

Blue: In a horizontal strip in a proportion of 25% of the size of the flag and represents the water wealth, rivers and streams that bathe the Municipality.

Yellow: In a horizontal strip in a proportion of 25% of the size of the flag and represents the wealth in minerals, especially the gold found in the Municipality.

Black: It represents the wealth of the main resource that identifies the Municipality of Piedmont, which is oil and is located in a triangle superimposed on the left end of the flag.

White: It represents the peace that we long for the Municipality and is located in a triangle next to the color black, at the far left of the flag.

The CoA is described as follows (original in Spanish):

Water drop: In the upper part of the shield, as if it were falling on the Piedmontese soil, a symbol of the climate, rain and humidity, which have protected the soil from fires and natural disasters, it also symbolizes the waters that bathe everywhere.

Mountains: Symbolizing the Serrania de los Churumbelos and the complex of hills and mounds that lie in the Municipal Territory.

Petroglyph: Between the mountain located on the right that also symbolizes one of the peaks of the Forge, the archaeological wealth of Piedmont is represented, evoking the memory and spirituality of the ancient culture that inhabited the territory since before the conquest of America.

Palo de Cruz flower: Beautiful and emblematic representation of the Piedmontese Flora with all its species.

Hummingbird: Subtle representation of Fauna in divine harmony with the flora and beauty of nature.

Command Cane: Represents indigenous cultures, on this cane, a yagé vine with 12 branches, symbolizing the 12 indigenous communities of Piedmont.

Marimba: On the recommendation of Mrs. Sofia Valencia, this musical instrument has been used to represent the Afro Piedmontese Community.

Ax: Symbol of the hard work of farmers and historical ancestors who colonized these lands, a corn plant emerges from the axe, with 9 ears each representing a district of the Municipality.

Tower: Symbol of development and technology, large infrastructure works are built through towers (bridge, communications, energy, etc.). This proposal for the shield of Piedmont is presented in the shape of a slightly elliptical circle and divided into two sections. In the upper part, nature and the ancestral are observed in a simple manifestation of these riches in our Municipality. In the lower part, the cultural and social aspects of Piedmont are represented, as well as its development. It contains 9 main images and two additional ones, as well same a tape with the words: Valor, Altruismo, Paz. Valor alludes to the ideological battle of arguments and reasons, waged by the patriarchs of Baja Bota Caucana against dark forces (guerrilla) and legal forces (National Army), so that the territory becomes a Municipality.

Altruism refers to the leaders (Indians, whites and blacks) who knew how to orchestrate their fight, based on philanthropic and humanitarian principles, thus achieving the final battle. Peace is the desire of all Piedmontese and that after a sad and heartbreaking story, with great effort we will know how to consolidate.
