Coat of Arms

Shield Azure; two castles Argent, each one having three embattled towers and masoned Sable, the upper castle is smaller, in the gate of the lower castle is an inescutcheon, parted per fess into Sable over Or, the Sable field is charged with a 6-point star Argent.
Meaning:
Staufenberg probably gained city rights before 1296. The oldest seal dates from 1376, displaying a wall crowned by an embattled tower with an inescutcheon, charged with the arms of the Counts of Ziegenhain, the founders of the city. This version was also displayed within the armorials of Dilich and Siebmacher (1605). In seals of the 19th century the double castle, like displayed in the current arms, was established. This version was also displayed within Otto Hupp: "Deutsche Ortswappen" (1925). The current version was taken from "Hessisches Ortswappenbuch" and was in use officially since 1961.
