Lahn City (1977 - 1979)

For a brief preriod these two cities were amalgamated into "Stadt Lahn" (1977-1979), a highly unpopular state of affairs as I recall.
Jan Mertens, 30 Sep 2006

I have not yet found any information about a flag, but the arms are presented at German WIKIPEDIA. They show the arms of Wetzlar. The eagle bears however an inescutcheon with the arms of Gießen. It is not sure, whether there had been also a flag, because arms frequently are approved before the flags, and the city existed just for 31 months.
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 2 Mar 2014

Lahn city was established on 1 January 1977 by merging of the cities of Gießen and Wetzlar and with 14 minor municipalities between both cities. It was dissolved on 31 July 1979.
Lahn city had been one of the rare examples of successful resistance of the citizens against ephemeral projects of German politicians. The stronghold of the resistance had been especially in Wetzlar, which was afraid to lose its identity, but also in the smaller communes between both cores, which were afraid to lose their rural character.
Lahn had had no proper flag. The information was confirmed by the heads of both city archives.

Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, an eagle sable, crowned, armed and tongued Or, above his right wing a crosslet patty Argent, on the eagle's breast an inescutcheon Argent, charged with a lion rampant Gules, armed and tongued Azure, winged Sable.
Meaning:
The arms are more or less those of Wetzlar city , while the inescutcheon displays the arms of Gießen city.
