Minden City Banner

It is a red ans white vertical bicolour with the cities coat of arms shifted to the top. There are two versions: with inscription unserifed, black initials "MINDEN" (left image) and without inscription (right image).
Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side shows a black double-headed eagle, armed golden (= yellow) and tongued red, in a golden (=yellow) field. The sinister side shows two crossed silver (=white) keys in a red field.
Meaning:
The sinister side shows the genuine coat of arms of the city. It was derived from the Bishopric of Minden. The dexter side shows the imperial double eagle of the Holy Roman Empire. During 30-Years-War the city had heavily suffered from supplying and lodging imperial troops. In order to thank the city Emperor Ferdinand II gained his "protection" and the privilege to have a second coat of arms with his imperial double-eagle. The city used the two coats of arms side by side, and e.g. on coins the old one. The sinister side was also used alone at least until 1657. Later both shields have been connected to one shield divided per pale, officially in 1853.
Authorized: according to Veddeler the flag is used without any authorization.
