Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Shield Azure, a bend Or, charged with three roses Gules seeded Or.
Meaning:
The arms are a modification of the family arms of the Von-Vechelde kin. Their arms displayed in a silver shield three golden roses on a black bend. The colours blue and yellow are those of former Braunschweig County.
The arms were approved on 12 January 1966 by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Braunschweig. It was decided to keep the arms after the mergers with minor villages on 1 January 1974, which was confirmed on 31 October 1975

Groß Gleidingen Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Shield parted by a pall Argent, above plain Azure, at dexter Or a flax blossom Azure seeded Or, at sinister Gules, a horn Argent.
Meaning:
The pall is symbolizing the fork of the railway lines from Braunschweig to Hildesheim and Hannover. The blossom is reminding on the cultivation of flax mainly in the 17th and 18th century. The horn is representing the Von-Horneburg patrician family from Braunschweig, being local vassals of the Bishops of Hildesheim. It is also symbolizing the local cattle drovers. The colours blue and yellow had been those of former Braunschweig County, the colours red ans yellow those of the Bishopric of Hildeshaim.
The arms were approved on 10 January 1972 by administration president of Braunschweig. The arms were designed by Wilhelm Krieg.
