Introduction

The Yacht Club von Deutschland (YCvD / Yacht Club of Germany) was a national socialist sailing club and came to being in 1937 by dissolution and merger of many important German yacht clubs, the most important among those were Kaiserlicher Yachtclub (KYC / Imperial YC), Königlich Württembergischer Yachtclub (Royal Wurttembergian YC) and Königlich Bayerischer Yachtclub (Royal Bavarian YC). The merging was not always fulfilled voluntarily. In 1938 also numerous Austrian yacht clubs were enforced to join the new club.
The YCvD was not a mere sailing club but also the carrier of national socialist ideas. Another task was to propagate these ideas worldwide in the sailing community. Besides promoting sports the YCvD was an umbrella organization and instrument of nacification under supervision of the department of sailing (Fachamt Segeln) of the NSRL, the All German NS umbrella organization of sports. In 1938 the YCvD had 3,800 members.
After German defeat in WW2 as a part of denacification the club as a civil organization of the NSDAP was banned on 31 May 1945.

Burgee

[Yacht Club von Deutschland (German YC)] image by Klaus-Michael Schneider, 8 Sep 2012

The YCvD was somehow considered to be a successor of Kaiserlicher Yachtclub . Thus the flag is based on that one of KYC. The white pennant was divided by a black cross fimbriated red. Black, red and white had been the national colours of German Empire and of Germany under NS rule as well. The imperial crown, which had been in the flag of Kaiserlicher Yachtclub, was replaced by a golden (= yellow) eagle having a black rotated swastika upon his breast.
(the agle was the logo of NSRL, the NS sports umbrella organization, normally being black with a white swastika, here in different colours; editorial note kms
As Kiel YC after 1945 considered itself also being a successor of KYC, a burgee of the same pattern was adopted omitting the crown of KYC.
