Introduction

On this website is the text used for the article. (My translation)

Flagchange in more than 100 years shipping on the Elbe river by Heinrich Fischbach.

The Saxon-Bohemian Steamnavigation Company was founded in 1867. The first flag contained the green/white colors of Saxony, as well as the colors black/yellow of the city of Dresden. In 1923 the Company became Limited the colors were changed. The colors green/white were retained, and a blue anchor was added.

In 1945 the Soviet Military Occupation took over the company. A white pennant bordered red contained a red star. Occasionally a red pennant with a white star is said to have flown. From 1950 till 1956 the flag of the German Shipping and Overhaul company was hoisted. In 1956 the company received a new name: VEB Passenger Shipping Co. "White Fleet". After the reunification of Germany in 1990 the name became "White Fleet Dresden. The green/white colors returned as the city-colors. The anchor-design was modernized, and its white color contrasted with the black/yellow background. In 1993 the company was sold to Cosmos München, and is now named Saxon Steamnavigation Co. Conti Elbe-navigation Co. A new flag was introduced: on the green/white stripes in top a white half-circle is projected with a blue stylized wave.

SOAG (Staatliche Oder-Schiffahrts AG)

[Staatliche Oder-Schiffahrts AG] image sent by Jan Mertens, 6 Dec 2008

SOAG or ‘Staatliche Oder-Schiffahrts AG’ (i.e. State-Owned Oder Shipping Co.) was a shipping company organized under Soviet control in occupied (East) Germany, 1945, nicknamed the “Red Fleet” after the vessel registry pass.

The pennant is already on FOTW-ws (see above), where ‘Sowjetische Verwaltung’ stands for ‘Soviet Administration’.  The company name proper is found on a page we already know (see about one quarter of page). Also illustrated is a rectangular house flag, white, bordered red on three sides (except the hoist) and bearing a red five-pointed star in the centre.

Founded in 1946, SOAG was taken over by DSU (Deutsche Schifffahrts- und Umschlagszentrale i.e. German Shipping and Transhipment Central) in 1952.

Neue Deutsch-Böhmische Elbeschiffahrt

Found in ‘Flaggen auf dem Rhein’ (ed. 1952), the white and blue house flag of ‘Neue Deutsch-Böhmische Elbeschiffahrt AG’ (i.e. New German-Bohemian Elbe Shipping Co.). “Bohemian” refers, of course, to present Czechia; the firm was established at Hamburg.
White field horizontally edged blue (quite narrow edges,in fact) and bearing a large blue Maltese cross.

Founded at Dresden (1907) as a shipping, forwarding, and shipbuilding company.  From 1918 on cooperated with, and in 1921 took over, Deutsch-Österreichische Dampfschiffahrt AG (i.e. German-Austrian Steam Shipping Co.)   Merger with the Sächsisch-Böhmische Dampfschiffahrt-Gesellschaft (i.e. Saxonian-Bohemian Steam Shipping Co.), 1923.  The firm moved to Hamburg in 1951 after having sustained heavy losses during WWII and fleeing nationalization (DSU) in East Germany.
The company was still active in 1967.  Sources for above information: this link and this one.
