H. Fölsch & Co
H. Fölsch & Co. After the Salpetre-war of 1883 Chile gained a salpetre
monopol. Many companies settled down in that unfriendly region a few years
later. During the war the Hamburgian merchant Hermann Conrad Johannes Fölsch
established the business "Fölsch & Martin" in Valparaiso to
export the salpetre from Chile. At the same time the shipping-company "H.Fölsch&Co."
was established in Hamburg in order to move the salpetre. He last ship
had an accident in August 1921 ans was heavily damaged. A bit later the
shipping-company was dissolved. The company used a white flag with black
serifed capital letters "HF".(They are undotted in this version).
