In 1884 Carl Georg Meentzen established his own company in Bremen. Its purpose was shipping and trading, mainly buying and selling of coal from Scotland. After the death of the founder in 1932 his son Paul Emil Meentzen overtook the company. When oil became the most important fuel and shipping of coal decreased Meentzen gained transport and distribution for Mobil Oil in the Northern part of Germany. Afterwards the company was split up. Paul Rudolf Meentzen ran the oil and tanker shipping business while the elder son Carl Wilhelm Richard Meentzen ran the dry goods business. The latter renamed his company as EAL Europa Africa Lines Meentzen Schiffahrt. EAL ran tanker and cargo shipping in the 60ies of the 20th century and a shipping to Western Africa in the 70ies. C.W.R. Meentzen died in 1995 in Bremen.
