Neue Dampfer-Compagnie, Kiel

The Neue Dampfer Compagnie at Kiel is not the firm already mentioned on FOTW-ws – that one was established at Stettin. This page will help us out (again): The company was founded in 1886 to cash in on the growing ferry and waterborne transportation business at Kiel and its ships were nicknamed the “Black Steamers”. As in the case of its competitor, Hafenrundfahrt, cattle were transported – and passengers! More versatile, NDC operated tugs as well.
According to this source, the fleet counted 29 steamers in 1911. After WW1 the fleet was systematically modernized thanks to the introduction of motor ships. But in 1941 the Kieler Verkehrs AG, precursor of SFK, was permitted by the authorities to absorb NDC.
The house flag was horiziontally divided RWR and bore black initials ‘NDC’ in the white stripe (no serifs or dots). Image found in Flaggenbuch 1928 II (part 1) as no. 155 on p. 12.
The Besteauktion site however has a Massary (1930) picture on offer, showing the initials with dots (and so does the 1933 Lloyds album) – the url, while it lasts:

The flag itself is a red over white bicolour, charged with black capitals "NDC" across the center. The caption is quite blurred, but guessing a bit I can suggest that it reads something in the lines of "Neu Dampf Co.". There's a third word there, but that's too blurred for my mental OCR-tracer.

Quite, see the image at No. 601 'Neue Dampfer-Compagnie, A.G., Stettin' (formerly Germany) at the on-line 1912 Lloyds Flags & Funnels.
According to this page the company, founded in 1855, received the 'NDC' name in 1862 (what was the original name, then??) and was again renamed in 1923,
becoming the 'Stettiner Dampfer-Compagnie A.G.'. It was active in the Baltic and the North Sea and even, regularly, in the Orient.
Starting 1924, there was close cooperation with the HAPAG and Roland Linie companies under the direction of the Deutsche Levante-Linie; firm liquidated end 1930. The share on this page shows the Stettin griffin's head (click to enlarge); possibly the 'NDC' flag had been changed, with the firm's name, in 1923.
(PS: another company named 'NDC', founded 1886, was engaged in local shipping at Kiel. The ships were nicknamed the 'Black Steamers'.).

Stettiner Dampfer-Compagnie

Our pages mention the ‘Neue Dampfer-Compagnie’ of Stettin (now Szczecin, PL) above - Quote: (the firm) “was again renamed in 1923, becoming the 'Stettiner Dampfer-Compagnie A.G.'. It was active in the Baltic and the North Sea and even, regularly, in the Orient. (…) firm liquidated end 1930. (…) possibly the 'NDC' flag had been changed, with the firm's name, in 1923.”

That delightful site, Maritime Timetable Images, added a brochure of the company a few day ago: “undated; 1924 in handwriting on cover”. Ports listed are Stettin, Leningrad (former, and current, St Petersburg), Reval (Tallinn), and Stockholm.
We are shown the new house flag: white with a saltire in the national colours then current, NWR; in the centre is a black lozenge within a narrow white border visible against the background mainly thanks to a black holding line; in the lozenge appear the company’s initials ‘SDC’, in white, and serifed.
