The municipality of Vordingborg (46,187 inhabitants in 2018; 62,100 ha) was
established in 2007 as the merger of the former municipalities of Langebæk, Møn,
Præstø and Vordingborg.
The arms feature a flying wild goose, symbolizing
an individual in a large community with opportunities to move wherever it wants
- dynamics, mobility, energy and activity. The wings of the goose for a "V", for
"Vordingborg". The white triangle symbolizes Møns Klint, a 6 km stretch of chalk
cliffs along the eastern coast of the island of Møn, while the green triangle
represents Gåsetårnet (Goose Tower), the last remaining part of the castle of
Vordingborg (14th century), which included nine towers. The tower's spire is
topped by a golden goose, last changed in 1871.
The blue color alludes to
the municipality's coastline and waterways. Green represents the natural
environment of the municipality.
