Adopted 20 May 1992. Proportions: 7:11. Avinurme is a rural municipality (vald) in Ida Virumaa County (Maakond).

Avinurme vald flag symbolizes the name of municipality (Estonian havi is pike, nurm is field) and large forests. Hexagon comes from Tartu's coat of arms. It is also refers to the first six villages.
