The
2006 flag is a dark green flag showing the head of a pharaoh
with the double crown Pschent for Upper and Lower Egypt. This symbol was chosen
for the coat of arms of the governorate in 2010. On the flag in the
governor's
reception room, below the coat of arms, there is still an Arabic inscription,
probably the name of the governorate.

The 2016 version shows "Muhafazah Sawhaj" in Arabic (for "Sohag
Governorate"), as seen on the internet on a white field.

On the green flags of 1953 and 1975 a bridge over the Nile can be seen, surrounded by a laurel wreath in 1975.
