The municipality of Rágol (340 inhabitants in 2013; 2,700 ha; municipal website) is located 40 km north-west of Almería.

Symbols of Rágol

The flag and arms of Rágol, adopted on 16 October 1999 by the Municipal Council, are prescribed by Decree No. 348, adopted on 4 July 2000 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 29 July 2000 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 87, p. 12,268 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).

The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: One time and a half longer than high, made of three horizontal stripes, white, green and white, the green stripe twice higher than the white stripes. In the green stripe is placed the municipal coat of arms, in adequate dimensions.
Coat of arms: Argent a pentagramm [five thin parallel lines] sable per fess superimposed with a grapevine eradicated vert fructed or, in chief two pears vert, in base waves argent and azure. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown closed.

Pears have been grown locally since the Muslim period. The pentagramm represents the municipal music band, of long tradition. Grapevine is the main source of income in the municipality. The waves represent river Andarax.
