Presentation of Becedillas

The municipality of Becedillas (90 inhabitants in 2018) is located 75 km west of Ávila. The municipality is composed of the village of Becedillas and of the hamlet of Casillas de Chicapierna (10 inh.).

Symbols of Becedillas

The flag and arms of Becedillas are prescribed by an Agreement adopted on 23 November 2018 by the Municipal Council, signed on 1 February 2019 by the Mayor and published on 15 February 2019 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 32, p. 7,011 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Panel in proportions 1:1; width to length, vertically divided, the rectangle at hoist, blue, charged in chief with a crow argent and in base with a cow argent, and the rectangle at fly, red, charged with a bishop's miter or flanked by a bishop's crozier of the same. (Panel's proportions according to Article 13 of Decree No. 105 issued in 9 May 1991 by the Government of Castilla y León).
Coat of arms: Spanish shield, oblong with rounded-off base. Per pale, 1. Azure (blue) a cow argent surmounted by a crow of the same, 2. Gules (red) a bishop's miter or flanked by a bishop's crozier of the same. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed [detailed description skipped] (Shape of the shield and crown according to Articles 11 and 12 of Decree No. 105 issued in 9 May 1991 by the Government of Castilla y León).

The design and description undoubtedly identify the author of the memoir supporting the symbols as Andrés J. Nicolás-Minué Sánchez, also author of similar, recently adopted symbols for Castellanos de Zapardiel, Moraleja de Matacabras, and Navatejares.
The crow (corneja) recalls that Becedillas belonged to the feudal domain of Valdecorneja. The bishop's attributes probably recall that the ecclesiastic lord of Becedillas was the Bishop of Ávila.
