The municipality of Haza (33 inhabitants in 2009; 8,345 ha; unofficial website) is located 100 km of Burgos.
Haza, also known as Aza in the Middle Ages, was one of the first
places resettled in the 10th century after the reconquest of the
region from the Moors. The resettling of Haza was started in 912 by
Count Gonzalo Fernández, on behalf of King of León García I. The hill on which the village was built watched the valleys of rivers Riaza and Duero, while the Riaza supplied the colonists with freshwater. Haza was granted the title of villa and made the capital of the Community of the Village and Land of Haza.
Dame Juana de Aza (1135-1205, blessed in 1828) was the mother of St. Dominic de Guzmán, the founder of the Dominican Order.

The flag and arms of Haza are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 11 March 2002 by the Municipal Council, signed the same day by the Mayor, and published on 3 April 2002 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 63, p. 4,061 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, tricolor. A red band of 2:10 in height, the rest yellow and white. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Gules a genuine castle of Castile or masoned sable port and windows azure over a wave argent in chief sinister an eight-pointed star (La Magdalena) a bordure argent 19 rings sable. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.
