The municipality of Tosantos (53 inhabitants in 2012; 574 ha- is located in the east of the Province of Burgos, 40 km from Burgos.

Symbols of Tosantos

The flag and arms of Tosantos are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 5 March 2008 by the Municipal Council, signed on 10 April 2008 by the Mayor, and published on 2 May 2008 in the official gazette of the Province of Burgos, No. 83 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, in proportions 2:3. Red, charged with a white isosceles triangle with the base along the hoist and the vertex in the middle of the fly. The white triangle itself charged with a green triangle with the base along the hoist and the vertex in the middle of the flag. Over the green triangle a white chestnut tree.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. Argent a chapel gules (red), 2. Vert (green) a chestnut agent. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.

The chapel and the white triangle represent the troglodytic chapel of the Virgin of the Rock (presentation). The chapel was built inside the mountain, with only its Renaissance facade visible from outside. The inner part of the chapel is small (10 m x 5 m; 5-6 m in height). Caves located close to the chapel were once inhabited be hermits.
The chestnut tree represents the tree standing close to the parish church for more than 100 years (photo).
