Presentation of Rosalejo

The municipality of Rosalejo (1,438 inhabitants in 2017; 4,020 ha; municipal website) is located 120 km north-east of Cáceres and 15 km north-east of Navalmoral de la Mata.

Rosalejo was established as a colony located on the municipal territory of Talayuela, by a Decree adopted on 7 September 1954 by the Spanish Government. The Instituto Nacional de Colonización was commissioned to design a new village to accomodate 1,465 inhabitants, 80% of them coming from Talavera la Vieja, a village flooded by the Valdecañas man-made lake.
The submunicipal entity of Rosalejo was established ny Decree No. 57, adopted on September 1986 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 9 October 1986 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 83, p. 1,140 (text), and on 25 November 1986 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 282, p. 39,182 (text). This eventually offerred political and administrative existence to Rosalejo.
The municipality of Rosalejo was established by Decree No. 4, adopted on 8 February 1994 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 10 February 1995 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 16, pp. 417-418 (text), and on 8 April 1994 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 84, p. 10,878 (text). The separation had been unanimously accepted on 13 September 1993 by the Assembly of Extremadura.

Flag of Rosalejo

The flag (photo) and arms of Rosalejo, adopted on 25 August 2006 by the Municipal Council and validated on 18 January 2007 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 23 January 2007 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 8 February 2007 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 16, pp. 2,119-2,120 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3. Divided into two equal horizontal stripes, the upper, white, and the lower, green, separated by blue and white wavy stripe, in width 1/6 of the flag's width. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arm.
Coat of arms: Argent a rose tree eradicated vert flowered of three roses gules in base waves azure and argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The rose tree (rosal) makes the arms canting.
