Presentation of Robledillo de la Vera

The municipality of Robledillo de la Vera (284 inhabitants in 2017 vs. 858 in 1950; 1,283 ha; municipal website) is located 140 km north-east of Cáceres and 30 k north of Navalmoral de la Mata.

Robledillo is the birth place of Blessed Sister Matilde Téllez (1841-1902; blessed on 21 March 2004 by Pope John Paul II). After her family had moved to Béjar in 1851, Matilde Téllez founded in 1875 the congregation of the Amantes de Jesús e Hijas de María Inmaculada (Jesus' Lovers and Daughters of Immaculate Mary), known as the Blues, together with her friend, María Briz (d. 1885). The congregation is established in several Spanish towns (Don Benito, Cáceres, Béjar, Trujillo, Almendralejo, Santos de Maimona, Valverde de Burguillos and Villanueva de Córdoba) and in America.

Flag of Robledillo de la Vera

The flag and arms of Robledillo de la Vera, adopted on 31 October 2002 by the Municipal Council and validated on 6 February 2003 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 10 February 2003 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 22 February 2003 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 23, pp. 2,391-2,392 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3. A white panel charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Argent an oak vert fructed or surmounted by a flamigerous sword argent hilted or flames gules in fess. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The oak makes the arms canting, robledillo meaning "a small oak". The flaming sword must refer to the congregation founded by Matilde Téllez.
