Symbols of Cózar

The flag of Cózar is prescribed by Order No. 20 issued on 27 January 2022 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 3 February 2022 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 23, p. 3,641 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, in proportions 2:3, divided into two equal parts by a diagonal line running from the upper fly to the lower hoist. The upper part, red, the lower one, white. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms.

The coat of arms of Cózar is prescribed by an Order issued on 26 November 1990 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 30 November 1990 in the official gazette of Castille-La Mancha, No. 88, p. 3,836 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Spanish shield. Argent a cross-sword of the Military Order of Saint-James gules. A bordure gules eight castles or port and windows azure masoned sable. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The cross-sword recalls that Cózar belonged to the Order of Saint-James. In 1275, Grand Master Pelayo Pérez Correa transferred the place to Montiel. Philip II granted in 1554 the status of villa to Cózar. The castles represent the old Kingdom of Castile.
