The municipality of Casas de Haro (836 inhabitants in 2018; 11,088 ha) is located 120 km south of Cuenca and 60 km north-west of Albacete.

Casas de Haro was already settled by the Celtiberians, as evidenced by remains of water tanks. After the Christian reconquest, the village depended on a domain ran from the castle of Haro, which also included Carrascosa de Haro, Fuentelespino de Haro, Rada de Haro, and Villaescusa de Haro. The domain was erected after the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa (1212) by Alfonso VIII for his Alf&ecute;rez mayor, Diego López de Haro (d. 1214).

Symbols of Casas de Haro

The flag of Casas de Haro (photo) is prescribed by an Order issued on 10 September 2001 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 25 September 2001 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 103, pp. 11,197-11,198 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, composed of two triangles formed by the diagonal running from the hoist's lower angle to the fly's upper angle, at hoist, white, at fly, celestial blue. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms.

The coat of arms of Casas de Haro is prescribed by an Order issued on 10 September 2001 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 25 September 2001 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 103, p. 11,198 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Per bend sinister, 1. Argent three pines eradicated vert 2 and 1, 2. Vert a bunch of grapes or. A bordure gules eight saltires or. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

Grapes are produced in Casas de Haro by the cooperative society La Magdalena (website), which was established in 1958 by 60 wine-growers owing 1,600 ha planted with grapevines. In 1990, the cooperative launched the Vega Moragona brand (Ribera del Júcar designated origin).
