The municipality of Cenes de la Vega (6,458 inhabitants in 2008; 700 ha; municipal website) is located in the Granada Plain (vega), 5 km south-west of Granada.
There is no historical account of Cenes de la Vega before the 16th century; beforehand, the town probably experienced the same troubled history as Granada. During the Muslim period, the place was settled only during the period of silkworm rearing, therefore its nickname of villa de la seda (Silk Town).

Symbols of Cenes de la Vega

The flag and arms of Cenes de la Vega, adopted on 31 March 2008 by the Municipal Council and submitted on 4 April 2008 to the Directorate General of the Local Administration, are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 18 April 2008 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 9 May 2008 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 92, p. 88 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, in proportions 2:3, made of a blue ascending diagonal stripe bordered white, a red triangle along the hoist charged with a yellow pomegranate and a green triangle along the fly.
Coat of arms: Tierced per bend sinister, 1. Gules a pomegranate or faceted gules, 2. A bend sinister azure fimbriated argent, 3. Vert. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The flag is a banner of the municipal arms. The blue bend sinister is a symbol of water. The pomegranate (granada) represents the Province of Granada. Green is the colour of the flag of the town of Granada.
