Symbols of Villarrasa

The flag and arms of Villarrasa, adopted on 25 January 1996 by the Municipal Council and validated on 27 June 1996 by the Royal Academy of C—rdoba, are prescribed by Decree No. 436, adopted on 10 September 1996 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 8 October 1966 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 116 (text). This was confirmed by a Resolution adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 11 x 18, made of three parallel stripes perpendicular to the hoist, of equal size; the first and the third, blue, the second, or central, yellow. Charged in the center with the local coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Azure a castle or masoned sable port and windows gules ensigned by a knight issuant armed argent wearing a Duke's helmet holding in the dexter hand a dagger or by the point. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The symbols were proposed on 16 October 1995 by Juan José Antequera.
In 1786, the municipality answered to the geographer Tomás López that "at least since 500 years, short after the foundation of the town by the Duke of Medina Sidonia and Count of Niebla, the municipality has been using for arms, among others, a castle on which stands this lord, holding a sword in his hand by the point". The shield was crowned by a Duke's coronet; the arms were taken from the supporters of the arms of the lineage of "Guzmán the Good in Tarifa".
The old arms were "rehabilitated" in compliance with the norms of heraldry.
