Presentation of Corpa

The municipality of Corpa (671 inhabitants in 2014; 2,591 ha; municipal website) is located in the east of the Community of Madrid, 15 km of Alcalá de Henares.
Corpa is of disputed etymology. The most probable origin of the name of the village is the Arab word al-qarw, "a watering place"; alternative explanations are another Arab word, qurb, meaning "a neighbourhood", or the Latin word curvus, "sinuous".

Symbols of Corpa

The flag (photo, photos) and arms of Corpa are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 27 July 1989 by the Government of the Community of Madrid and published on 24 August 1989 in the official gazette of the Community of Madrid, No. 201, p. 7 (text) and on 8 September 1989 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 215, p. 28,628 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Panel in proportions 2:3, green with the municipal coat of arms in the middle.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. Gules a cross argent, 2. Vert a fountain argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The Royal Academy of History validated quite different symbols. The proposed arms are "Per pale, 1. Or a jug gules, 2. Gules a cross flory argent. Grafted in base, vert a fountain argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed." The jug recalls the local industry, the fountain is "most representative of the village", and the last part of the shield is made by the arms of the Marquis of Corpa. The Academy deemed the organization of the shield "discrete", recommending not to modify the colours of the arms of the Marquis of Corpa "for the sake of differentiation from the municipal arms", but rather to integrate them, with other charges, in the municipal arms.
The Academy validated the proposed flag, yellow with a red jug and two green and red vertical stripes.
