The municipality of Puebla de la Sierra (83 inhabitants in 2014; 5,770 ha) is located in the north of the Community of Madrid, on the border with Castilla-La Mancha (Province of Guadalajara), 110 km of Madrid.

Symbols of Puebla de la Sierra

The flag and arms of Puebla de la Sierra are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 29 October 2003 by the Government of the Community of Madrid and published on 5 November 2003 in the official gazette of the Community of Madrid, No. 264, p. 18 (text), and on 28 November 2003 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 285, pp. 42,528 (text).
The symbols were originally adopted on 8 April 2002 by the Municipal Council. The Heraldry Assessors (Royal Academy "Matritense" of Heraldry and Genealogy) required corrections on 28 April 2002, which were implemented on 28 April 2003 by the Municipal Council.
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, in proportions 2:3, green with a yellow stripe running from the hoist's upper corner to the fly's lower corner. In the center is placed the municipal coat of arms of Puebla de la Sierra.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1a. Vert a mural crown or in base the anagram "1497" of the same, 1b. Or a branch of oak vert, 2. Or three mountains vert. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.

The Royal Academy rejected the proposed coat of arms, whose description, somehow equivocal, does not match the attached drawing. The proposed design is excessively complicated. The arms of the Mendoza de la Vega could be suppressed, because of the very limited connection of the lineage with Puebla de la Sierra. The charges of the second quarter - a year and a mural crown - are quite odd regarding the "good heraldic tradition".
The Academy also rejected the proposed flag, which is made of three blue and green stripes. The chromatic proximity of the colours makes the flag little legible. Accordingly, it is recommended to propose another design.
