The municipality of Bustillo de la Vega (332 inhabitants in 2010; 1,899 ha; municipal website) is located 60 km from Palencia.
Bustillo is named for the diminutive form of busto, "an area burned
for agricultural purposes". "de la Vega" refers to the plain (vega)
surrounding river Carrión. Bustillo was resettled in 860 by Count
Rodrigo, the whole Saldaña area being resettled in 866 by King of León
Ordoño I.
The village of Lagunilla de la Vega, part of the municipality of
Bustillo, is said to be the site of the Roman settlement of Lacobriga,
without any archeological evidence, though.
In 2009, the National Institute of Statistics granted to Bustillo de
la Vega the title of "cleanest village" in Spain.

The flag and arms of Bustillo de la Vega are prescribed by a Decree
adopted on 10 April 2000 by the Palencia Provincial Government, signed
on 13 April 2000 by the President of the Government, and published on 4
May 2000 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 85, p. 5,022 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Quadrangular flag with proportions 1:1, with horizontal stripes red and green. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms, in full colors.
Coat of arms: Of Spanish shape, per fess, 1. Gules flames incandescent terraced, 2. Vert a river terraced azure and argent. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.
The coat of arms forms a rebus of the village's name..
