Presentation of Salinas de Pisuerga

The municipality of Salinas de Pisuerga (319 inhabitants in 2019; 2,120 ha) is located 120 km north of Palencia and 10 km east of Cervera de Pisuerga. The municipality is composed of the village of Salinas de Pisuerga, Monasterio (18 inh.), Renedo de Zalima (13 inh.), and San Mamès de Zalima (9 inh.).

Symbols of Salinas de Pisuerga

The flag and arms of Salinas de Pisuerga are prescribed by an Agreement issued on 1 October 2020 by the Municipal Council, signed on 3 October 2020 by the Mayor, and published on 14 December 2020 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 236, p. 52,656 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular panel, in proportions 3:2 (length to width). Gyronny at hoist, the upper triangle, blue, the lower triangle, green, and the central triangle, yellow. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms, tierced at hoist.
Coat of arms: Spanish shield. Per fess, 1. Or a cow sable collared and belled proper surrounded by two spikes vert, 2. Azure a bridge or masoned sable in base four fesses wavy argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown closed.

Blue represents the sky.
Yellow represents the fields.
Green is a wink to the Bolivian town of Mizque, founded on 19 September 1603 by Francisco de Alfaro as Salinas de Rio Pisuerga.
The cow and the spikes highlight cattle-breeding and agriculture as the main sources of income in the village.
The bridge represents the nine-arched medieval (16th century) bridge spanning over river Pisuerga.
