Presentation of Manacor

The municipality of Manacor (37,963 inhabitants in 2007, therefore the second most populated municipality in Majorca; 26,031 ha; municipal website) is located 60 km due east of Palma de Mallorca.

In the 14th century, King of Majorca Jaume II built in Manacor, to which he had granted the status of town, a palace as his temporary residence, from which only the Palace Tower, housing the royal bedroom, has been kept. Another important building in the town is the St. Vincent Ferrer church, built in 1597 as a convent church, to which a Baroque cloister was added, eventually completed in 1744.
Manacor is the birth town of the gymnast Elena Gómez Servera (b. 1985, retired in 2006), world champion on the floor exercise in 2002 and first performer ever of the quadruple turn (known since then as "Gómez"); of the footballer Miguel Ángel Nadal (b. 1966, retired in 2005), member of FC Barcelona from 1991 to 1998; and, last but not least, of the tennisman Rafael Nadal Parera (b. 1986), No. 1 ATP player since August 2008, Olympic Champion in Beijing (2008), serial winner at (2005-2008; 2010-2014; 2017) and "occasional" winner at Wimbledon (2006-2007; 2011).

Flag of Manacor

The flag of Manacor (photo, photo, photo), as seen in May 2009, is yellow with four horizontal red stripes and the municipal coat of arms in the center.
The arms are "Argent a dextrochere clad azure the index raised holding a heart gules." This forms a rebus of the town's name, ma, "a hand", and cor, "a heart".
